HOLE-IN-THE-ROCK ROAD Hole-in-the-Rock Road begins five miles east of Escalante, Utah off Highway 12. The Road is DIRT approximately 55 miles long starting at the Highway 12 cattle guard turn off and ending at the "Hole-in-the-Rock" overlook of the Colorado River, Lake Powell & the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. In 2011 Garfield County took over the road maintenance and its now accessible by almost any vehicle, weather permitting. Mileage is approximate marked from the Highway 12 turnoff heading south. The country is some of the most spectacular in the world for hiking, climbing, biking, sightseeing and photography. There are trail heads all along the road and sideroads.
